製造企業における競争力低下とその再生の経営戦略

Since first and second oil crisis the competitiveness of manufacturing companies such as steel or automobile companies in highly industrialized western countries are declining. But Japanese companies are enjoying competitive power in world market. 0n the other hand U. S. compernies face serious declining competitiveness. Japanese companies win in international competition but U. S. companies lose its market share in world market. We think these situation originates in management differnce between two countries. After the second World War II Japanese companies place high priority in producing high quality products not only in domestic market but in world market. But U. S. companies place less emphasis in production management and marketing in comparison with Japanese companies. These days new management environment are arising. Newly Industrializing countries (NICS, in short) are gainig competitive power. Their companies are producing highly quality products and enjoying price advantage. U. S. and Japanese labor force are aging but labor power in NICS is so young that this creates a low wage and low production cost. This creates a comparative advantage in product price in world market. For example, Korea has an explicit vision for creating a highly industrial nation based on the vitality of manufacturing companies for the 21st century. U. S. and Japanese companies must cope with this new situation. The important strategy to win the NICS companies is that managerial resources such as money, personnel, technology, human skill, new and creative knowledge are fully used to produce highly creative, highly multifunctional and highest quality products which will be welcomed in world market. A manufacturing company has a very important and core role in creating a new industrial society and at the same time to vitalize a local and national economy. Taking above mentioned facts into consideration a study of management strategy and behavior of manufacturing companies forms a central area in the study of modem management.
