Blood stagnation (Oketsu) in oriental medicine has been demonstrated to be induced by the increase of blood viscosity. Thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance from lipid peroxidation of erythrocyte membrane by reactive oxygens decrease in erythrocyte deformability which is one of essential factors of blood viscosity. This reports presented that lipid peroxidation of erythrocyte membrane by hydroxyl radical and superoxide as reactive oxygen induces thiobarbituirc acidreactive substance.
