Based upon the well-known fact that thiourea forms soluble complex with Fe, Bi or others in aqueous solution, more than 45 kinds of thioureido derivatives were synthesized to obtain a new chelating reagents. Alkyl, aryl, phenyl, thiazolyl and 4-methyl-thiazolyl groups were introduced on one or two N position of thiourea. The screening test were conducted in acidic, neutral and alkaline medium for 66 metal ions. The developed coloures in chloroform extract were inspected with eyes. The detection limits for comparatively sensitive compounds (21 compounds) were described. The chelate formation for them were investigated with continous variation or mole ratio methods. It was found that chelate forms in mole ratio of 1 : 2 for metal (II) to compound.
