Management of maxillary incisors with excessive root resorption due to bilateral impacted canines

Report here on the orthodontic management of a patient with excessive root resorption and abnormal mobility of the maxillary central incisors due to bilateral impacted maxillary canines. Edgewise appliances were placed and both maxillary canines, which erupted spontaneously after creating enough space, were substituted for both maxillary central incisors. Two years and five months later, follow-up evaluation revealed good retention stability, sufficient function, and content dental and facial aesthetics with Angle Class II molar relationships. The interdisciplinary approach and alternative treatment plan used are discussed in this case report.
