Orthodontic treatment of a patient with severe partial anodontia : A case report

Congenitally missing teeth are a problem orthodontists must solve in terms of how to treat the region with missing teeth. In most cases where a single or double tooth is missing, orthodontic treatment is chosen to close or open a space in the region of the missing teeth. However, treatment of patients with multiple congenitally missing teeth is not easy in terms of setting up the force systems and anchorage by multi bracket appliance, and subsequently how to perform applied space closure, dental implants, ridged prosthodontics and so on in the teeth missing regions. Here, we report orthodontic treatment of a boy with twenty-one permanent teeth congenitally missing. In the successful orthodontic treatment of this case, removable partial dentures were used to anchor teeth during the orthodontic treatment and after debonding were used as retainers during retention.
