In this article, we describe the photovoltaic properties of polymer--fullerene bulk-heterojunction films doped with Coumarin dyes. Although the two kinds of dye used in this study have similar absorption bands, distinct differences in both short-circuit current density and open-circuit voltage have been observed. In particular, we found that open-circuit voltage could be enhanced by doping with Coumarin 307. This finding implies that doping with organic dyes is a potentially effective scheme for improving the open-circuit voltage as well as the short-circuit current of bulk heterojunction devices.
