Light Amplification Induced by Stimulated Resonance Raman Scattering in Poly(phenylene vinylene) Thin Films

Stimulated resonance Raman scattering (SRRS) from spin-coated poly[5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-2-methoxy-cyanoterephthalydiene] (CN-PPV) thin film waveguides was investigated in terms of the excitation length dependences of the threshold pumping power, polarization effect, and cutoff thickness. As excitation length was increased, the threshold pumping power for SRRS linearly increased. The SRRS light was dominantly propagated by the transverse electric (TE) mode. The films thinner than the calculated cutoff thickness (49.8 nm) for TE0 mode propagation exhibited no SRRS. These results suggest that the present SRRS basically originated in the stimulated process of Raman scattered light confined in the CN-PPV thin film waveguide.
