Enhanced Superconducting Transition Temperature in the Water-intercalated Sulfides(Condensed Matter : Electronic Structure, Electrical, Magnetic and Optical Properties)

Water-intercalated misfit-layer sulfides Na_x(H_2O)_y(MS)_<1+δ>(TaS_2)_2 were found to exhibit superconductivity for M=Sn, Pb, and Sb, as well as anhydrate sulfides (MS)_<1+δ>(TaS_2)_2 with M=Pb, Sb, and Bi. The optimal transition temperature T_c was ≃3K for the anhydrate sulfides, and was enhanced up to ≃4K by intercalating a "bilayer" of water between the adjacent TaS_2 layers. This indicates that the presence of water molecule is favorable to superconductivity in the sulfides as in the cobalt oxide Na_xCoO_2・nH_2O, for which superconductivity appears only for the "bilayer" hydrate.
