A new flow control droplet generator has been developed for a molten tin droplet. A piezoelectric crystal varies the flow resistance in a narrow gap in the middle of a liquid vessel and a nozzle, thus changing flow rate at a high repetition rate. The formation of tin droplets using this generator was demonstrated in a frequency range from 10 to 22 kHz using a 100 μm nozzle and at 35 kHz using a 50 μm nozzle. This flow control droplet generator allows the piezoelectric crystal to be separated from the nozzle, which is advantageous for high-temperature liquids such as molten tin or for harsh environments such as those in vacuum.
