We propose an optically compensated bend (OCB)-mode liquid crystal (LC) cell with an initially $\pi$-twisted state caused by a pixel-isolating polymer wall. The proposed cell does not require any type of transition nucleus for the bend transition. The cell shows a lower driving voltage than a conventional OCB cell. It has wide viewing angle and fast response properties similar to those of the conventional OCB cell. Moreover, the polymer wall provides mechanical stability that prevents the distortion of the display image caused by external pressure.
