Local tunneling barrier height (LBH) distribution, regarded as the local work function distribution, of Ni3Al(111) is observed and compared with that of NiAl(110). Although element-specific and atomically abrupt LBH distribution has been observed on NiAl(110), such a definite distribution is not observed on Ni3Al(111). This indicates that the abrupt LBH distribution is not due to the elemental combination of Ni and Al but due to the electronic structure of the surface.
