High-Repetition High-Duty Tokamak Discharge with Long Duration

A long duration of high-repetition high-duty discharge was successfully obtained up to 60 s in a small research toroidal device, current sustaining tokamak in Nagoya University (CSTN-III), by employing a compact pulse width modulation (PWM) invertor power supply. Slow variations of plasma parameters over the whole duration have been observed. The device has a useful potential for studying a long pulse discharge behaviour which is one of the critical issues for long or steady-state operation of magnetically confined fusion reactors.
