Hyperuricemia in Congestive Heart Failure

Though hyperuricemia occurs frequently in various types of congestive heart failure(CHF), the mechanism of the hyperuricemia remains unsolved. We analyzed relations among several clinical parameters of CHF and changes in the serum uric acid (S-UA) in 8 cases. (1. CCM 2. MSI+AI 3. Complete A-H block 4. CCM 5. PAT 6. PS 7. ASD 8. MS)<BR>No significant correlation was found between doses of diuretics or the extent of right ventricular failure and S-UA. In the contrary, a significant correlation was demonstrated between S-UA and the severity of the left and combined ventricular failure.<BR>The above observations along with many previous reports that urinary excretory function of uric acid was deteriorated on volume contraction, suggest that fall of the cardiac output in left ventricular failure, via decrease in the renal blood flow and renal extracellular fluid gives rise to a decrease in the urinary excretion of uric acid.<BR>We consider that S-UA is one of the useful parameters for judging of the severity of left and combined heart failure.
