A relationship has been found to exist between the selectivity (the ratio of an unsymmetrical disulfide to symmetrical one) in the oxidation of a pair of associating thiols, 1-acyl-3-(2-sulfhydrylethyl)urea (1) and 1-(p-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl)-3-(sulfhydrylacetyl)urea, and the melting point of 1 in cases where 1 belongs to a homologous series.
