Hydroxy ketones were obtained in high yields by the chemoselective alkylation of formyl group of keto aldehydes with dialkylzincs in the presence of such catalysts as 2-dimethylaminoethanol, <I>N</I>,<I>N</I>,<I>N</I>′,<I>N</I>′-tetramethylethylenediamine, or dilithium salt of piperazine.
