The Estimation of the <I>G</I>-Values for the Ionization and Excitation of Noble Gases Irradiated by 100 keV Electrons

The binary-encounter collision theory has been applied to the calculation of the <I>G</I>-values for the ionization and excitation of noble gases irradiated by 100 keV electrons. The <I>G</I>-values obtained were as follows in the order of He, Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe: 2.27, 2.19, 2.81, 3.20, 3.45 for <I>G</I>(electrons), 0.85, 1.55, 1.92, 1.64, 1.51 for <I>G</I>(singlet states), and 0.17, 0.07, 0.13, 0.23, 0.39 for <I>G</I>(triplet states). The method of the calculation and the significance of the results were discussed.
