Azelastine hydrochloride in the treatment and prevention of seasonal cedar pollinosis.

Collaborative research conducted by 11 facilities involving 169 patients with Japanese cedar pollinosis (hay fever), showed that Azeptin® (Azelastine) was very effective in both prevention and treatment.Administered 3 weeks prior to the height of the pollen season, Azeptin® prevented symptoms in 81.8% of those with a medium degree fo pollinosis.When Azeptin® treatment was initiated after the height of the pollen season, it relieved the symptoms of allergy in 2 weeks, and after four weeks an even greater disappearance of symptoms was noted, so that an improvement rate of 77.3% was reached.In the patients who started Azeptin® therapy before the beginning of the pollen season, symptoms of allergy were mild even at the height of the season, proving that Azeptin® administered before the start of the pollen season is far more effective than when given to relieve symptoms which are already severe.
