To investigate the correlation between the righting reflex of the head and the sway of the body's center of gravity in the Romberg position, the acceleration of the head and the body's center of gravity were simultaneously recorded on an X-Y recorder.From this examination, the following was revealed;1) When the eyes were open, the head had a tendency to remain in a position almost perpendicular to the ground in relation to the lateral movement of the body's center of gravity.2) When the eyes were closed, the head inclined to some degree. However, this inclination of the head did not exceed the extent of inclination produced by the lateral movement of the body's center of gravity.3) The inclination of the head produced by a specific lateral movement of the body's center of gravity was not influenced by the difference in the height of the center of gravity.4) In cases of labyrinthine dysfunction, the pattern of this examination was completely different from that of normal controls.
