Between April 1979 and December 1985, forty-eight patients with stress fracture of lower extremities were treated in our hospitals.Twenty-nine cases were male and nineteen cases were female. The average age of the patients was 15.3 years. The diagnosis of stress fracture was based on the clinical symptoms, local findings and radiographic changes. In this study, the bones most commonly involved were the tibia (twenty-six cases), metatarsals (thirteen cases) and fibula (ten cases). Our data on localization are similar to other studies. All the fractures were treated by rest from athletic activities. All the athletes returned to their sports.
