A case report: periosteal chondroma of the right humerus.

We report a case of periosteal chondroma of the right humerus. An 11-year-old boy entered our hospital with an abnormal contour on the right humerus. Radiographs on admission showed a depressed, sclerotized cortex on the posterior side of the right humeral metaphysis. A physical examination demonstrated swelling, with no pain, and no limitation of the shoulder movement. No lymph nodes were palpable. Routine laboratory studies were within normal values except CRP. A scintigraphy (99mTc-MDP) showed an abnormal uptake in the right humerus at the level of the lesion, and an angiography revealed the mass to be poorly vascularized.At operation the tumor was located between the periosteum and the cortex. A curettage of the tumor was performed.Histologically the lesion was composed of cartilaginous tissue and lobulated within a fibrous capsule. Atypical and mytotic nuclei were nonexistent.During five months after the operation, the local cortical change was restored.
