Twist Irregularity : Part 2 : Causes for Twist Irregularity of Yarns Spun on RingSpinning Frames

The number of twists per 25 cm. of yarn spun on ring spinning frames was measured continuously by the conventional untwist-twist method, and the causes of twist irregurality were studied theoretically. The results are as follows :<BR>The cyclic change of the number of twists is observed clearly for cotton yarns, the number of twists being the smallest near the nose and the largest near the shoulder of a chase. These periodicities of twist change conforms to that of the ring rail movement of the cop-building motion. Since twists of yarns decreases with an increase in spinning tension, it can be suggested that the cyclic change of twist is caused by tension variations depending on the increase or decrease of the package diameter induced by the building motion.<BR>For worsted yarns spun on ring spinning frames, the periodic change of twist cannot be seen so clearly as in cotton yarns, since the change due to weight variations in worsted yarns is greater than that of cotton yarns.<BR>Considering the twist periodicity mentioned above, a yarn must be measured continuously over 1 or 2 chases of a cop to get the accurate value of the number of twists.
