• The reflected light from a yarn squeezed flat shows its peak value when measured in a plane vertical to the twisted fibres twist irregularity tester based on this principle has been constructed, which operates automatically and records the change of gist angle. Several gist irregularity curves have been obtained it both staple yarns and continuous filament yarns, Some factors affecting the accuracy of the test result are discussed, and the curve is compared withh the gist angle measured by visual observation,
