Clinical application of artificial dental roots using glass ceramic implants.

The authors recently performed a clinical test of Glass ceramic artificial tooth roots created and developed by Matsui, Shibuya et al., from March 1987 to June, 1989, for two years and 3 months, concerning the attachment rate in 11 male and 13 female patients, totally 63 dental roots, over 5 month after implantation.<BR>The bio-live attachment rate for up to 3 months after operation, before mounting of upper structure, was 90.4% and spontaneous fall-out was observed at 6 dental roots in 3 cases with continued unpleasant feeling and slight pain probably due to inflammation after implantation.<BR>On the other hand, the functioning rate after mounting of upper structure was 94.7%, with fallout probably due to trauma observed at 3 dental roots in one case.<BR>Principally centering on glass ceramic implanting operation mode and results, the outline has been given as above.<BR>Stable and satisfactory implanted condition of glass ceramic tooth root in the jaw bone was confirmed by this clinical test and the possibility of clinical application is considered to be quite high.
