Most central fibromas are of odontogenic origin, while those of non-odontogenic origin are rare. Furthermore, desmoplastic fibromas of the jaw bones are very rare.<BR>Recently, we encountered a desmoplastic fibroma occurring in the anterior region of the mandible of a 37-year-old male patient. Radiological examination revealed a walnut-sized region of unicystic radiolucency. For treatment, partial resection of the mandible, including the tumor, was performed. Histopathologically, the tumor tissue was composed of dense collagen fibers and fibroblasts. Calcifying tissue and odontogenic epitheilum were not noted.<BR>The prognosis was fairly good after surgical treatment and there are no signs of recurrence at present.<BR>We reported this case together with some comments based on the literature.
