An unusual case of hyberbileacidemia was reported. A 24-year-old female who appeared very well was one volunteer in a control group who gave blood samples for determining the normal value of serum bile acid. From the blood donated by this female in January, 1980, hyperbileacidemia was found. Conventional liver function tests performed on her, including ICG test, were normal. Cholecystography revealed no gall stone. Histologically her liver showed no change in the parenchymal and periportal areas.<BR>Analysis made on her bile acid showed a high concentration of total bile acid, and increase of cholic acid and glycine conjugated bile acid, therefore a high cholic acid/CDCA and a high glycine conjugated bile acid/taurine conjugated bile acid ratio were recognized. The hyperbileacidemia and abnormal bile acid pattern continued for two years and eight months. The cause of such hyperbileacidemia remains obscure, however an intracellular biochemical change has been suspected.
