Study of long-term protective effect on family inhabitants of HBV carriers by administration of Hepatitis B vaccine, with a special reference to the different subtypes of HBV.

In order to clarify the protective effect against different subtypes of HBV and long-term protection in family inhabitants of HBV carrier by administration of Hepatitis B vaccine derived from HBV carrier plasma. We investigated 76 family inhabitants of adr or ayw type HBV carrier. HB vaccine were administrated in 37 cases.<BR>The HB vaccine recipients acquired anti-HBs in 32 out of 37 (86%). After 5 years, the titers of anti-HBs were decreased in 29 cases (78%), disappeared in 6 cases (16%), who were not infected by adr or ayw HBV.<BR>In the non-HB vaccine recipients, anti-HBs became positive in 9 out of 39 (23%) and anti-HBc became positive in 2 out of 20 (10%). In these family inhabitants of adr HBV carrier, anti-HBs became positive in 21% and anti-HBc became positive in 0%. In family inhabitants of ayw HBV carrier, 17%, 20%, respectively.<BR>These data suggest that Hepatitis B vaccine is useful in preventing the infection of both adr and ayw HBV in family inhabitants of HBV carrier for a long time.
