The diametral tensile strength (DTS) has been sometimes used for evaluating dental materials. However, the effects of specimen size and materials have not been clearly confirmed. In this study, four different dental materials (gypsum, hybrid and MFR composite resins and a polymethyl methacrylate) were selected for determining the relationship between specimen sizes and DTS. Several different sizes of disk-shaped specimens were prepared. DTS of PMMA specimen could not be determined. The different sizes of specimen had no significantly effect on DTS of gypsum and hybrid composite resin groups. However, the DTS of MFR composite resin showed significant differences among the sizes.
