A Study on the Optimum Design for Midship Segment of Double Hull Tanker〔含討論〕

A technique procedure on structural optimum design for midship segment of double hull tanker is developed in this paper. It consists of two optimization processes. One is that the total cost of one tank hold length is taken as the objective function and scantlings of longitudinal and transverse members in midship segment are chosen as the design variables. Many design constraints are considered such as plastic collapse and buckling strength of structural members. Since the tranverse ring is simplified as a frame system in which the corner structure members are simplified into the rigid portions, it is impossible to consider the effect of local strength at those portions on the optimum results and their optimization in the above-mentioned process. Thus, another optimization process based on the finite element method with the sensitivity analysis is introduced for the detail optimum design of transverse ring part. The first and second order sensitivity analysis of the finite element method is used to estimate the effect of the design variables on the design constraints. The multiplier method is applied as the optimization method. A numerical example with 56 design variables is carried out in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
