Preparation of High-T_c Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O Films on MgO Substrates by the Method of Solvent Evaporation Epitaxy (SEE)

Oriented thin films of the high-T_c superconductor, Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_x, were prepared on a MgO (001) substrate by means of a KCl solvent evaporation technique. The film consisted of three phases: a major phase as Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_x, a minor phase as Bi_2Sr_2CuO_x and a trace phase as Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x, whose ratio depended on the growth conditions. The films showed superconducting transitions in the as-grown state above 81 K and no residuai resistivity was observed below this temperature. The epitaxiai relationship between the film and the substrate is also mentioned.
