Effective Application of Turbulent Heating to High Density Tokamak Plasma

• The applicability of turbulent heating to stable high density tokamak plasmas, which are produced by gas-puffing, is experimentally investigated. Up to the line-average electron density n^^-_e ≈ 1×10^<14>cm^<-3> the low frequency ion acoustic instability is identified by the application of a relatively small value of pulsed current allowing for the effective ion heating to be confirmed. Calculations of onset conditions for the ion acoustic instability show that the plasma cooling in the outer region by gas-puffing and electron Ohmic heating by pulsed current are advantageous in the excitation of current-driven ion acoustic instability.
