The Stark modulation technique was applied to the B'0^+v'=11←X^1Σv"=1 transition of IBr. The observed line shapes of R- and P-branches are composed of two different types; one is of an absorption type and the other of the derivative type. The relative amplitudes of both line shapes change characteristically according to the angle between the applied electric field and the light polarization. New rotational lines, otherwise forbidden in the transition, appeared under the applied electric field. Moreover, these field-induced lines always show the same absorption-type line shapes. Q-branch lines, in particular, are remarkably enhanced at the perpendicular polarization of light to the electric field. These characteristic features of the Stark modulation spectrum have been explained by a perturbational treatment.
