A simulation code is developed to evaluate the signal-to-noise ratio in daytime observation with Mie lidar and differential absorption ozone lidar in the UV region. The UV spectrum of the solar background radiation is calculated on the basis of the radiation transfer equation. The cut off wavelength is 305-308 nm depending on the solar zenith angle. The theoretical results are compared with observed data. The optimum transmission wavelengths in Mie and ozone lidars are estimated at wavelengths of excimer-Raman lasers taking account of the solar-blind effect by stratospheric ozone, and the maximum detection range in the solar-blind lidar is discussed.
