Asymmetric 180° Bloch Walls in Fe Single Crystal Films

An experimental study of 180° walls in an Fe single crystal film with a thickness of 1800 Å has been made with the defocused mode of Lorentz electron microscopy, by tilting the sample with respect to the electron beam direction. An image profile which shows an asymmetric magnetization distribution in the 180° wall was found to change drastically as the sample was tilted about the axis perpendicular to the wall plane. Based on the contrast mechanism in Lorentz electron microscopy, the magnetization distribution for the wall could be experimentally deduced and related to the theoretical models. It is concluded that the 180° walls in Fe single crystal films with a thickness in the range between 800 and 2000 Å has a vortex structure, and the spin distribution is close to the two-dimensional theoretical prediction.
