This study aimed at examining relationship between leader behavior and subordinate morale, focusing upon the moderating effect of social power on this relationship. The 158 employees belonging to the local government organization served as respondents. They were asked to respond to three instruments: A Leader Behavior Scale (46 itemes), a Morale Assessment Scale (41 itemes), and a Social Power Assesment Scale (15 itemes). Major findings were as follows: 1. Relationship between leader behavior and leader social power was found low but statistically significant. 2. Correlation coefficients between leader social power and subordinate morale were lower than those between leader behavior and subordinate morale. 3. Relationship between leader's perf romance-oriented behavior (P behavior) and subordinate morale was stronger for subordinates under a high referent power leader than for subordinates under a low referent power leader. 4. The moderating effect of position power and expert power on relationship between leader behavior and subordinate morale were not significant.
