In this paper, we proposed a vertical configuration of an antiferroelectric liquid crystal(VC-AFLC)mode which has more stable alignment than that of a helix deformed ferroelectric liquid crystal(VC-HDFLC)mode. This VC-AFLC mode has the fast response, analog gray scale capability, high contrast, and wide viewing characteristics.
