A ^<13>C-nuclear magnetic resonance procedure is described for the rapid qualitative and quantitative analysis of ephedra alkaloids (I and II). This technique has been applied to the analysis of basic fractions from various ephedrae herba, giving results comparable to those obtained by gas-liquid chromatography technique, but with many advantages.
