This paper deals with the nesting activity in a colony of Bombus (Pratobombus) ignitus Smith during 5 months from April to September of 1959 in Sasayama basin, Hyogo Pref., Japan. In general, the female after hibernation appears in middle April to found her nest, the workers in middle of May, and new females and males in late August to early September respectively. Their nesting life ends in late September. The maximum point of the number of foragers was found in middle August, but it became minimum in early September. In most cases, trips for pollen or nectar collection required 35-40 min. or 15-25 min. respectively. The times necessary for deposition of pollen or nectar inside of the nest were 2-10 min. or 2-6 min. respectively. All of the foraging workers observed in June and July were almost medium-or large-sized individuals. But the foragers became intermixture of various sized workers from late August to early September. Particularly, it has to be emphasized that the small-sized workers carried out foraging trips in the colony of the late season. Moreover, minimum-sized 10 workers with fresh wings were discovered within the colony when I arrived at the comb in excavation. They had never been observed out of the nest and were supposed as house bees similar to those found in the colonies of Bombus ardens Smith and Bombus diversus Smith. Expulsion of a parasitoid (adult of larval ectoparasitoid or Mutilla europaea mikado Cameron) and a nest destroyer (small moth) from their nest by workers was observed. Furthermore, abandonment of their larvae by themselves was recognized late in August.
