Intraspecific variation of ovariole number in four chrysomelid species, Chrysolina aurichalcea (MANNERHEIM) (Chrysomelinae), Plagiodera versicolora distincta BALY (Chrysomelinae), Aulacophora nigripennis nigripennis MOTSCHULSKY (Galerucinae), and Basilepta fulvipes (MOTSCHULSKY) (Eumolpinae), was analyzed statistically. Although these four species have the common characteristic of low growth rate from egg to adult, their patterns of variation in ovariole number were different, a possible result of various different strategies in their life cycles.
