Distribution of ammonia and ammonium ion between hexane containing trioctylphosphine oxide(TOPO) and aqueous 1 mol dm^<-3> sodium perchlorate-chloride media at 298K was studied. The distribution ratio of ammonia was very low and independent of TOPO but that of ammonium ion was third order dependent on this extractant and it was higher than those of sodium(I) and potassium(I) under the identical conditions
