SOLVENT EXTRACTION EQUILIBRIA OF SOME UNIVALENT METAL IONS WITH β-DIKETONES IN METHYLISOBUTYLKETONE

Solvent extraction of Na^+, K^+, Rb^+, Tl^+ and Ag^+ (denoted by M^+) in aqueous 1 mol dm^<-3> Na(ClO_4) solutions with benzoylacetone, benzoyltrifluoroacetonc, or 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (denoted by HA) in methylisobutylketone(MIBK) was measured and the equilibria were statistically analyzed. The extracted species was in the MA form with all the mctal ions and NaMA_2 species was also found with Ag^+. These species were in all cases assumed to be che1ate complexes. The extraction with these reagents was better in the order of Ag^+>Tl^+>>Na^+>K^+>Rb^+ and benzoyltrifluoroacetone and 2-thenoyl-trifluoroacetone in conjunction with MIBK were concluded to be effective reagents for the extraction of silver(I) and thallium(I).
