1. It is desirable to use "Estimation of the volume of the timber stand" in place of "Determination of the volume of the stand" in the past, since the latter contains many defects as follows : a, It is impossible to estimate the extent of the error variance from the experiment.b, In extructing test trees purposive selections being used, there is no gurantee that they are real test trees we desire, and the presissions of the results differ with the skill of the tecknicians.c, It has no reproducibility.d, In addition to measuring diameters of breast high over the whole forest in question, we had to search for test trees from among it.e, We can not make reasonable determination and allocation of the number of test trees to stratums.2. As for "Estimation of the volume of the timber stand" we had better adopt the following system which has been used for sample survey.3. "Estimation of the volume of the timber stand" will be divided into two branches : a, Ratio estimate b, Regression estimate Each is again divided by sampling method, c, Random sampling d, Stratified one stage sampling 1,Deming sampling 2,Neyman sampling 3,Proportionate sampling 4. Regression estimate by proportionate sampling is most suitable to estimate the volume of the timber stands.5. As systematic sampling or randam sampling is not fit to estimate the volume of the timber stand, I recommend "Systematical Random sampling", that is : a, Determine the sample interval (I).b, Obtain some neccesal numbers which are less than (I) by random number.c, Add C×(I), 1×(I), ……, n×(I), to above numbers in due order.d, Abstruct those trees corresponding to the numbers above mentioned as test trees.
