A simple method is described for detecting glycoproteins which had been dot-blotted or electro-blotted on to a polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) membrane after sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. This method is based on the periodate oxidation of glycoproteins on a PVDF membrane with subsequent staining by the chromophoric hydrazide, 4-N, N-dimethylam-ino-4'-azobenzene sulfonyl hydrazide. The glycoproteins could be visualized as red-colored spots or bands in the range of 0.16-0.31μg.
