A208 TRANSIENT STRUCTURE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF NEGATIVELY STRAINED DIFFUSION FLAME(Laminar flame-2)

Numerical analysis is made on the transient H_2/N_2-air non-premixed laminar counterflow diffusion flames with positive or negative stretch rate induced by locally sucking flow from fuel and air side. Numerical computations take into account detailed chemical kinetics and multicomponent diffusion and pay attention to the effects of negative stretch rate on the flame structure and characteristics. The results are as follows. Flame temperature tends to increase with decreasing the stretch rate. The tendency is the same even in the negative stretch regime. At the beginning of suction, stretch rate varies widely but flame temperature scarcely varies. That is, the response of flame temperature is delayed and the local flame temperature cannot be rationalized by the local stretch rate. The local flame temperature can be rationalized by the local scalar dissipation rate even with unsteady variation. The maximum flame temperature tends to increases with decreasing scalar dissipation rate of mixture fraction. Experiments are made to see the transient behavior of the negatively strained flames.
