Tensile and creep properties are investigated for 2.25Cr-1Mo steel at temperatures between 550 and 690℃, after exposure at 577℃ for 1.9 × 10^5 h in commercial plant. The results are compared with those for virgin material. The creep rupture time is shorter for the service-exposed material than for the virgin material but the difference becomes less pronounced with increasing test temperature and time. The microstructure evolution during service-exposure promotes the dynamic recovery or recrystallization during subsequent creep test, accelerating the transition from the transient to the acceleration creep region. The decrease in creep rate with time in the transient region is small when the applied stress is larger than the proof stress, while it is large when the applied stress is lower than the proof stress for both the virgin and service-exposed materials, although the proof stress is lower for the service-exposed material than for the virgin material.
