As ideal scaffolds for bone tissue engineering, mechanical strength and biodegradability are needed, however, there exists no biomaterial with both two properties. In this paper, two porous ceramics- the novel sintered hydroxyapatite porous material with 17MPa compressibility and biodegradable β-TCP(tricalcium Phosphate) porous material were examined as scaffolds for cultured bone transplantation model using bone marrow derived osteoblasts. Both materials were applicable for tissue engineering scaffold. The β-TCP porous material with initial mechanical weakness proved to recover its strength with time after implantation together with bone osteoblasts in vivo.
