The crossover between itinerant-electron magnetism and local-moment magnetisun is investi-gated using the Hubbard model. Local quanttrm spin fltucttmations are taken into account throughmapping to the Anderson model. Intersite spin fluctuations are considered by the 1/d-expansionznethod, with d being the spatial dimensionality. When there is substantial nesting of the Fertnisurface, the staggered susceptibility shows a Curie-Weiss-lilce temperature dependence. ThisCtmrie-Weiss law is of leading order in I'd or O [(1/d)'] . When the N!el temperattrre 'Z'N is solow that Ty<( 'Z'K, wuth 'Z'K being the local Kondo tetaaperature, ordered magnetic rnonuentsare tuny. The ratuo of the specific heat jtrunp to the total specific heat at '7'N is approxiuaaatelyproportional to the ratio of the nested area of the Ferzni stnrface to the total Fermi surface. Whenthere is strong quenching of magnetic rnornents by local qttantuzn spin fltmctuations and nestingof the Fermi surface is stmbstantial enotrgh, a sintusoidal utaagnetic structtrre stabilizes. Otherwise,a helical unagnetic strtucture stabilizes.
