• For the fcc arrays of dielectric spheres, the reflectivity of a light and the local field excitedby it are calculated exactly by applying the layer doubling method developed in LEED. It isshown that, when the number of the layers of a system is more than 4 or 5, the reflectivityreproduces the band gaps fairly well and 15 layers are enough for the stop bands to develop tomatch precisely with the band-gap widths, with one exception of the lowest stop band whichrequires a much larger thickness. Also, the good coherence and strong confinement effect ofheavy photon are shown by detnonstrating the well-defined interference fringes in the reflectivityand the very high intensity of the excited local-fields,
