^4E_g(G) Excition of RbMnF_3

^4E_g(G) exciton of manganese ion in cubic environment, such as Mn^<2+>: KZnF_3 and RbMnF_3, is investigated theoretically. The energy level scheme including the Davydov splitting is obtained and the magnetic dipole selection rules are derived for an arbitrary applied magnetic field and an arbitrary direction of the mangetization. Theoretical results agree quite well with experimental results for RbMnF_3. Spin-orbit interaction plays a very important role in determining the behavior of ^4E exciton in the magnetic field when the spin axis rotates due to the applied field. The effective exciton transfer integral between Mn ions of a mearest neighbor pair in the paramagnetic state is estimated to be 32.3cm^<-1>. This corresponds to the value 390cm^<-1> for the extimated magnitude of the Davydov splitting of ^4E_g(G) exciton in the limit of the strong magnetic field (saturation field). Some comments on the magnon sideband are also given.
