Zone Boundary Splitting Formed by Spin-Orbit Interaction in La_<2-x>M_xCuO_4

By using a tight-binding-band rnethod taking account of the spin-orbit interaction,the alternate tilt of Cub. octahedra in the orthorhc>mbic phase of La. .A#.CuO.(M = Sr, Ba,= 4 ?) is shown to bring in a small band splitting at the Brillouin zoneboundary, which is absent without the above-mentioned interaction. The magnitudeof the splitting in the highest bands mainly consisting of Cu d.z ,2- and O p-orbitals isof the order of 10 men, which is sufficiently large against magnetic breakthrough sothat the Hall measurement results can be well interpreted in the framework of theband theory.
