The quadrupole effect on the shape of the absorption linne in the strained crystalshas been investigated for various magnitudes of the external magnetic field. With theGaussian distribution for the random field gradients, the following results have beenobtained: (i) In a case of low magnetic field, the line shape has one peak lying atnearly 2v., where v. is the Larmor frequency. (ii) In a case of intermediate magneticfield, the line shape has two peaks at nearly v. and 2v.. As the magnitude of externalfield increases, the peak at v. is increased in intensity and l>ecomes sharpened, whilethat at 2v. is decreased in intensity and becomes flattened. (iii) In a case of highmagnetic field, the line shape has one peak at v,-. An explarnation for these results isgiven.NMR, quadrupole interaction, line shape, line width, strained crystal
